Book projects

A couple of examples of some of the other works created recently in the form of 'books'.

  • 'I am' based on the poem by John Clare, who achieved fame early in his life only to go mad and be locked away for 26 years in Northampton lunatic asylum where he continued to write including this famous sonnet.
  • The poem is embedded in six digital images based on Clare and his written text. The images reflect the journey from dark to light, despair to hope in the text.

  • 'The Journey' a book in the form of a Hexahexaflexagon created in 2001
  • Clearing my parent's house after they died last year I collected together hundreds of family photographs and had the idea of making a book in the form of a hexahexaflexagon which could take the 'reader' on a journey through my life in photographs as others have seen me, encountering on the way relations, children, houses and cars that form part of that story.

The hexahexaflexagon is a six-faced, six-sided mathematical model discovered in the late 1930's. Created in a single strip and printed on both sides, it is folded in such a way that the six faces can be revealed by flexing the model turning it constantly inside and through itself. It looks easy but two of the faces in particularly are difficult to find, and it is possible to uncover and mix up parts of one image within others; rather like life I guess.

The finished flexagon fits neatly into a CD case.
